Today at the weekly International Religious Freedom Roundtable with Ambassador at Large Sam Brownback, the U.S.A representative of the International Organisation to Preserve Human Rights (IOPHR), Sharareh Afshari talked about the release of Narges Mohammadi, a human rights and social activist who was released from prison after 8 years of being held on NO charges. 

She also reported the case of two Gonabadi Sufis, Taghi Moradi and Armin Alizadeh, who were arrested over a week ago and since have been sentenced to 14 and 10 years in prison.

She continued her report with the case of the Sunni prisoner named Barzan Nasrollahzadeh who was 17 at the time of his arrest and since has been sentenced to death based on self-incriminating confessions under torture.

Ms. Afshari further reported about Kejvan Almasi, a participant in the “Master of Traditional Persian Music”, Mohammad Reza Shajarian’s funeral who was arrested and shot to death by the authorities in the police van.

Ms. Afshari concluded her report by stating that there has been no news or contacts with the “Prisoner of Conscience” Soheil Arabi, who was transferred to the infamous Rajai Shahr prison, for about a month now. His family is extremely worried about his life.
